Future Career

FSUshadow Program: connects students with employers, community partners, alumni, and friends of the university for one-day job shadowing opportunities to provide exposure to a wide variety of career fields and industries. Takes place during spring, summer, and winter breaks. 

Tally Job Hop: A half-day tour for students to visit some of North Florida’s top businesses. At each stop, students learn about a company’s corporate culture, what type of projects they are working on, and most importantly, what type of internships and jobs are available.

Personal Development

Service Scholars is a four-year, co-curricular program to promote civic responsibility and recognize students with an outstanding record of service and leadership. Includes an annual $3,000 scholarship provided requirements are met. 
 

Garnet and Gold Scholar Society: GGS facilitates involvement and recognizes the engaged, well-rounded undergraduate student who excels within and beyond the classroom in the areas of International, Internship, Leadership, Research, and Service. An undergraduate student who meets the criteria in three of the five areas and completes a Synthesis Reflection will qualify to graduate as a member of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society.

Leadership Education (Required): Students will register for and successfully complete a GGSS approved three-credit course designed to teach leadership theory and leadership issues in their professional or creative contexts with a grade of C- or better or a Satisfactory (S) if taking the course S/U. Note: this course cannot be taken in the last semester.

Courses not on the GGSS Approved Leadership Course list may be submitted for review if it meets certain criteria.

ProfessioNole Mentors Program connects FSU students with Alumni & Friends of Florida State for career advice and guidance through a virtual mentoring program. Learn more  →

  • Peeps: Connects alumni with each other, students and new graduates in an effort to help alumni relocate or find professional development opportunities in specific geographic areas by creating regional support groups.

Campus Involvement

FSU provides high-achieving students an engaging community with the flexibility and funding opportunities to explore their full range of interests. Our award-winning professors focus on student success with opportunities such as undergraduate research, which launches students into the fascinating world of a research university.

IDEA grants fund research, creative projects, and the development or evaluation of new or existing ideas. FSU undergraduate students in all majors can apply for an FSU IDEA Grant.

The Involvement Fair occurs every summer, fall, and spring semester and serves as an opportunity for students to find community, explore interests, and learn more about FSU’s 700+ Recognized Student Organizations.th Meet with Student Organization Leaders and Members at tabling events often located on Legacy Walk. 

Honors Thesis: Generate new knowledge through an original research or creative project in an academic discipline. Students will work with committee to select a topic, develop a prospectus, complete a written document, and defend their project orally before the committee. Typically takes 2-3 semesters to complete and students will graduate “with honors” in their major.

  • Freshman Leadership Institute: The Freshman Leadership Institute (FLI) is an executive project within the Student Government Association at FSU. The program encompasses weekly workshops, a weekend retreat, family groups, and a peer mentor program for student participants. This unique opportunity allows freshmen to make connections and build relationships with other FSU students interested in leadership development. 

  • Center for Leadership & Social Change: Offers more than 30 programs intended to foster opportunities and vision to create positive, sustainable change in their communities and the broader world. Opportunities range from one-time service at local nonprofits to year-long training and leadership roles. We offer training on such topics as leadership development, identity and cultural competence, service learning, and community change.

Honor societies are a great way to build a network of people with similar interests as you, as well as get involved in service and social opportunities.

It offers training, support, and opportunities to develop students who are scholars, leaders, innovators, and lifelong learners.
